Call for 2018-19 Internship Applications!
The IYWP is hiring interns for summer 2018 and academic year 2018-19! Current UI students are welcome to apply April 2-15 by completing this online application and submitting a resume. Interviews will take place the week of April 23. We hope to hear from you!
Available positions include:
Communications & Marketing: ensure that the IYWP’s presence is well promoted within the University, local, and state-wide communities by writing press releases, contacting local media outlets (newspapers, television, etc.), collecting volunteer and participant testimonials, and querying magazines for IYWP interviews/articles.
Community Outreach: Responsible for developing and maintaining connections with education and advocacy organizations throughout Iowa City as well as keeping in touch with the IYWP’s community partners to best assess the needs of the communities we engage. Community Outreach Interns attend ICCSD school board meetings and are integral in planning and facilitating community-based and justice-oriented workshops and programs.
Development: Work closely with the Director of Development & Outreach to identify, research, write, and submit grants of all sizes to help fund ongoing and new initiatives. Collaborate to plan and execute the IYWP's annual fundraising campaign, including letter-writing, outreach, and donor appreciation events.
Photo/Video: Attend and document--via photo, video, or both--all IYWP special events. Photo/Video Interns work with Site Coordinators to gather photos from weekly volunteer sites and to update the IYWP’s social media platforms.
Programming & Event Planning: Assist the IYWP Director and staff with any and all IYWP event-planning details. This may include brainstorming new author workshops and special events, building curriculum and content for those events, and helping to execute/emcee/recruit volunteers and participants.
Site Curriculum: Plan and write a monthly Volunteer Resource newsletter for current volunteers that includes activities, tips, and other engaging content. Stay in contact with Site Coordinators to assist in finding or creating programming and activities for their locations.
Social Media: Work closely with Director and staff to keep the IYWP’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, website, Wiki, podcasts, etc.) fresh, relevant, and continuously updated and also work make sure that promoted events, awards, mentions, etc. are advertised via social media.
Volunteer Appreciation: Work with Director to brainstorm, plan, and implement two volunteer appreciation events per semester (happy hours, pizza dinners, movie nights, pub trivia, etc). Help figure out small incentives (snacks, gift certificates, personalized thank-you notes) to keep our volunteers happy and energized.
