The Iowa Youth Writing Project offers innovative weekly writing and activity workshops at thirteen schools, community centers, and rehabilitation facilities throughout Eastern Iowa. Committed teams of volunteers visit workshop sites each week with lesson plans that focus on literacy, imagination, self-advocacy, social awareness, and play. Our approach is rigorously student-centered, so each workshop differs from the others in terms of content, focus, and execution. It is our hope that each student emerges from our weekly writing workshops with an earnest love of language and a robust appreciation for the singular power of their own voice.
In addition to our weekly writing workshops, the IYWP offers weekend activities, annual conferences and events, and special one-time workshops for students not reached by our weekly programming. To find out more about our one-time workshops and special events, visit our “Special Events” tab.
